Mercy was having a very hard time, the anniversary of her parents death was just around the corner. As she sighed sadly she began to wonder what her life was going to show. She had nothing to show for what she was doing. She was alone, she had no other family, she had no friends nor any boys that wanted to go out with her. She felt so alone, she felt afraid that she was going to die alone, and that thought scared her. As she took a deep breath she sat on the edge of the cliff, looking down. If she fell it would be her death, running her fingers through her hair she was lost in thinking.
"Maybe it would be best if she just threw herself over the edge. No one would miss her, and her parents would be on the other side. She wasn't much of a believer in life after death, but she knew that her parents would kick her ass if she did it. Looking up at the sky she noticed it was getting dark. The blue sky started to turn gray, and the rumbling of an on coming storm heard in the far distance. But she didn't make a move, she didn't care, having a feeling the storm was way off she just relaxed.
It was then she thought she heard something, her gray and green eyes scanned the area, maybe it was just all in her head? It felt like her whole world was going to come crashing down on her. But then she heard someone step on a twig, the snap sounded very loud around the cliffs. Slowly standing up she moved away from the edge of the cliffs, placing her hands on her hips as she began to look for who was around here. No one had ever cared to talk to her, but maybe now she would get to talk with someone.

'we fear what we don't know'
Forrest pulled the zip up on his jacket as he folded his arms across his chest, a breeze ran through the trees causing him to shiver slightly. A storm was brewing in the evening sky, but Forrest continued to glance over at the girl way off in the distance. She stood close to the edge, as painful thoughts of her parents deaths ran through her head. He didn't mean to pry and read her mind, but when she stood in such a comprimising position, Forrest had to know what she was thinking; he had to know the reasoning behind her so desperately wanting to jump.
Stepping closer he felt a twig snap under his shoe, "shit" he whispered under his breath as the girl, startled, jumped back and began to look around. Should he make his presence known, or continue to watch from a distance. What if she went through with it? Would his powers be strong enough to save her? Maybe he should talk her out of it. Taking another step, Forrest revealed himself from his hiding place amoung the trees.
Now what? What exactly do you say to a girl who's so desperate, that she'd end her own life? "Um...hey?" Yeah, Forrest really wasn't a social person, and 'um...hey' probably wasn't a wise choice of words, but at least it had caught her attention, for the moment at least.
"I know how you're feeling...but jumping isn't the answer." He spoke softly, his voice merely a whisper as he tried to rectify the situation and his bad start. Placing one foot in front of the other, Forrest took another step forward and stopped, not wanting to move too close in case she grew scared and ran off.

Mercy saw a guy coming out, her eyes narrowed to his, she didn't know what to believe any more. She looked down over the ledge. "How can you possibly know what im going through?" She crossed her arms as she closed her eyes. Tears fell down her face, she had nobody, as she opened her eyes however she seemed so close to the ledge. She bite her lip and looked back over to him. "Do you know what its like to have everything taken away from you? To raise yourself? To Have no friends, no family and no one to love you"
Her words were not shy but full of pain, she could tell this kid didn't have any problems at least in the love department, she had seen him around town before, with a girl hanging onto him. She looked down as she cursed herself, why couldn't she just throw herself over the ledge and be done with it. But the fear of death held onto her like a vice. She sighed sadly falling onto her knees, her arms around herself, she had no fight any more, she didn't have much of a hope for anything, she sighed sadly, lost in the moment.
No one ever cared for her, but this kid, why did he care? they didn't know each other. As she looked up at him, she saw kindness in his eyes, but she didn't know him, this could be a trap, a trick of some sort. Why? She didn't know, she shook her head and her eyes full of sorrow and pain scaled down and went to the ground, so lost in every moment, so scared. She bite her lip as she held back tears, not wanting to cry, because in her opinion crying was a sign that you were a very weak person and she was but didn't want to admit it.

'sometimes you find more comfort in a strangers arms...than those of whom you know'
"I do" came Forrest's reply, short and blunt. As he said the words his feet brought him a step closer to the girl who now stood on the very edge of the cliff. She asked if he knew what it felt like to have everything taken away from you, to have to bring youself up. The sad truth of it was, that's all Forrest knew, from an early age the only one he could depend on was himself. Painfully, as if giving up the fight she fell to her knees, craddling her body as she held back the tears.
Deciding to take the final steps towards her, Forrest walked over and knelt down in front of her. Forrest was a quiet guy who kept to himself, yet there was something about this girl that made him want to help her. She felt as he had, all those years alone with no one to love. Now, however, a light had shone into Forrest's life bringing him Colbie; if the girl could only see that fate does work in mysterious ways. Slowly, Forrest reached out in front of him, taking hold of one of her hands, gently he squeezed her hand to reassure her that she could trust him.
Forrest looked into her eyes, those bluey green eyes filled with so much sorrow, "Don't give up just yet, there's so much life has to give you. I was where you are now...no hope, no fight, no one..." he shrugged. "Just believe me when I say you're not alone." He kept his words to a minimum, not wanting to pry by asking too many questions. Keeping a gentle hold of her hand, Forrest continued to kneel down in front of her. By this point, the moon had risen as the winds began to pick up, howling through the trees. As the gently breeze turned harsher, neither moved, instead Forrest stood his ground, believing that'd she'd talk at some point or another.

She felt his words hitting her like a sledge hammer, she felt his gentle hand on hers, her eyes showing her inner pain, showing signs she was listing. She looked up into the sky, seeing the stars coming out, some came here to make out, but her? She willed herself to die. "I gave up on life a year ago..." She said slowly. "Destiny gave you somebody, but they didn't give me a damn thing"
How could he understand when he had someone? he had a reason, he had a purpose, she had nothing. But something about him was different, her eyes scanned him then her gaze fell to the ground, she could see her moment in her eyes, seeing blood on the ground, seeing her parents dead. The memories hurt her so much she could hardly breath. "Must be nice to know love" She said softly.
"Im already dead...." She added after a moment of silence, she took a deep breath. "I will never know what its like to be free, to be loved" Tears fell down her face. "There is nothing anyone can do, there isnt anyone that would love me" She slowly stood up. "Death is nothing more then a dream, I do not have the strength to end my own life by my own hand"
She looked down at him, how he tried to help her, she sighed closing her eyes as she chewed away the bitterness for a moment and reached for his hand. To help him stand up, perhaps he did know what it was like. With an attitude like hers, of course no one will love her, she doesnt even love herself, but she won't ever love herself. All she wanted was to be loved, to be held against someone, to feel there skin to hers, to hear his heart beat, she sighed some looking at him.

'never let go of hope...for destiny shall find you some day'
Forrest accepted the hand that the girl held out to him, gently she pulled him up until they both stood at the cliffs edge. The winds blew more viciously now, with the intention of harming those who stood in its way; Forrest knew that the worst place to be in that instant was at a cliff's edge, but the girl beside him didn't care anymore. Part of him thought that she didn't mind if the wind blew her over, at least she wouldn't have to jump herself. Instead he stood by her side, if she was going over then I guess he was too...it was an all too tragic 'titanic' situation of 'I jump, you jump'. Standing by her side Forrest peered over the edge as he recalled memories of his painful past.
"I watched my parents being murdered...after that there was nothing but me...me and this fake hungry world we live in." He never turned, instead he kept his gaze directly ahead of him onto the dark pit beneath them, "How do you know you'll never feel what it's like to be loved if you kill yourself now? If I had killed myself all those years ago I would never have found love also." He paused for a moment to let his words sink in. "There's so much more to this world, love of a partner, love through friendship, you just have to be willing enough to let love in."
Forrest had never felt so frustrated before, he just wanted her to see that there's no point giving up, not before you've actually lived. He ran a hand through his messy, dirty blonde locks as he turned to the girl beside him, "I'm Forrest" he said casually as a smile timidly found its way to his lips. It was hardly the time for a friendly meet and greet, but she had to know his name, she had to know that if she jumped she'd be leaving a friend behind.

She listened to him, but when he said his name she knew, she slowly looked up at him. "Mercy.." She gave him a name, she stuck her hands in her pocket as she walked a few feet away from the cliff. She was to weak to kill herself, she couldn't handel it. Like she couldn't handel being alive, destiny had a nasty hand for her that was for sure. It was said this area had beings of all kinds here, most the time people didn't know there were witches.
Mercy believed in it, how else was he so good with words, as she looked at him, she tilted her head to the side, it must be nice for him, so sound and at peace. "I let love in once" She said finally "It was nothing more then a joke at the end" she remembered someone who asked her out to the prom but to find out it was just a joke to make her look stupid.
She brushed her hand to the side of her face, brushing the black hair away from her eyes. She was a song writer, but no one had ever heard her sing, or seen her work. She walked over a few feet away to a tree, she put her things in her bag, but kept a book out. "Only thing im good at is writing music, music that wont ever get hurt, im nothing more then a shadow any more" She looked at Forrest wondering what was going on through his mind. She couldn't help but want to know every little thing, she was interested in him. Wondering what will happen now that she had him in her life. She just wished he was single, it would make everything so easy for her, but no, he actually was happy with everything that was going on in his life.

'never turn you back...you don't know who you might loose'
Hearing Mercy's story of how her prom date had been a joke hurt Forrest. It hurt him to know that people played with peoples emotions in such a way, scarring them for life in some cases. He could see the pain in her eyes as she admitted that the love she had felt was merely a joke. Forrest couldn't picture his life without the love of Colbie, his soulmate. He knew there was someone in this world for Mercy, it was a matter of her finding them. "I know what I say is merely words to you now and it's hard to hold on when you can't see anything to hold on for...but Mercy-" he paused to look at her, his eyes staring directly into hers, "-don't give up on yourself, you're a beautiful person and you deserve a life. You just have to give life a chance and love will find you...I promise."
As Mercy turned from the cliffs edge Forrest kept his back to her as he closed his eyes and let out a sigh of relief. She'd finally made the decision to abort her suicide attempt, but that still didn't solve the pain and lonliness she felt. At this point Forrest could simply turn and walk away, his job here had been done, he'd completed his good deed for the day. Then he remembered back to all those nights he'd cried himself to sleep, his heart aching for love from someone, anyone. It was then that Colbie found a way into his pain filled life, she came to him in dreams, comforted him, loved him without even knowing him. Forrest knew he couldn't just leave Mercy, she was lonely and fragile...and all she wanted was a friend.
Forrest stood under the starlit sky as light drops of rain began to fall, opening his eyes he turned and walked towards Mercy who stood under a tree packing away her things. She held a book in her hand, one Forrest assumed contained all her lyrics. "Can I read your music?" he asked curiously. He wanted to know what she was really thinking and how she truely felt, the best way was through her music, which would be a representation of herself and her feelings.

Mercy stopped when she heard him ask about her music, she looked down at the book, she gave him a soft smile and handed it to him. She looked up into the dark sky, and she turned in the direction of the cliff, she closed her eyes and before anyone could even think a soft melody escaped her lips as she sang.
"Please, please forgive me, But I won’t be home again. Maybe someday you’ll have woke up, And, barely conscious, you’ll say to no one: "isn’t something missing? "
You won’t cry for my absence, I know - You forgot me long ago. Am I that unimportant...? Am I so insignificant...? Isn’t something missing? Isn’t someone missing me?
Even though I’d be sacrificed, You won’t try for me, not now. Though I’d die to know you love me, I’m all alone. Isn’t someone missing me?
Please, please forgive me, But I won’t be home again. I know what you do to yourself, Shudder deep and cry out: "isn’t something missing? Isn’t someone missing me? "
And if I bleed, I’ll bleed, Knowing you don’t care. And if I sleep just to dream of you And wake without you there, Isn’t something missing? Isn’t something..."
When she opened up her eyes a tear fell down her face, all she did was brush her hand to remove the tear from her face. She had done enough of this for one day. She was tired, so tired she wished she could just go to sleep and never wake up again. Looking at Forrest she wondered if he would be like the rest, talk to her for a few moments and then leave her. But she had some what hope for this guy, he seemed to really care, but was she mistaken?
"Forrest" She said finally and there was a bitter silence that whipped around them. "Thank You, for your friendship..."

'strange things are happenin'
As Mercy placed her book in his hands, he held onto it and looked up into her eyes. The look he gave her was one of reassurance, one that told her, she could trust him. He felt slightly honored that this girl who had trust in no one, trusted him with her inner most thoughts. Leaning back against a tree trunk, Forrest took the book in his hands and opened it to the first page. Before he could read a word, Mercy allowed a beautifully haunted tune to escape her lips. The song travelled in the winds through the trees around them. Forrest was mesmerized, her voice carried so much pain and sorrow, it captured him, made him want to listen.
As the song ended so did their tranquil moment as the winds picked up wrapping itself around the two. Mercy looked up and thanked him for his friendship, well that's what it was...wasn't it? A faint smile escaped Forrest's lips, "The feelings mutual".
Realising that they shouldn't stay up there any longer, Forrest pulled his hood over his head and walked towards Mercy struggling against the wind. "Mer-Mercy I-I think we'd better get outta here...I think a storms movin' in". Forrest had to shout over the wails the wind made as it blew towards them, knocking anything it could out of its way. "Do you need a lift anywhere?" he shouted, as he held on tightly to his hood.
As large raindrops began to lash down from the sky above, Forrest brought Mercy's book up to his chest in an attempt to hid it from the rain. It had already been the strangest evening and now it was turning into a strange night, the weather forecast that day had predicted a warm and humid night, not a massive rain storm, but then again nothing was definate in this place. By this point, the rain which had been swept up in the wind brushed against Forrest's cheeks, stinging him, turning his whole face numb. "You ready?" he asked Mercy, who seemed to have managed to finally pack away all her belongings, "The cars this way" he said as he turned and led the way to his 1971 dodge challenger. His main hope now was that his car actually started up, it had a tendancy of being rather tempermental at times.
